Today is Monday March 25, 2013.

Media:


We will be studying the issue of Fast Food Advertising and its effects on consumers. Specifically, we will discuss whether advertising products to elementary and secondary students is a good idea.  We will be discussing the material on handouts pages 110-112 .


Journal:


This entry is focused on Easter. You will write about family traditions/rituals/customs during this holiday. A reminder that in Term 3, students are to write a minimum of 250 words per journal entry.

Today's class will build on the essay writing from last week. We will Brainstorm, Map, Cluster and Write on a specified topic. Today however, we will focus on Introductions and developing a Thesis. We will learn about Working thesis'. Students will try a working thesis for homework.

Today is Thursday March 28, 2013.

Novel Study 8P and 8T:



Today we will continue reading our new novel study book titled "The Skin I'm In". We will read Chapters 3 and 4 and discuss the book as a class. In addition, students will have two handouts to work on in class and for homework.


Sightlines:

Today`s story is titled: ``Raoul Wallenberg". It is located on pages 152-156 of the text. We will work on question 2 in class. I strongly suggest you Google Mr. Wallenberg (to have more insight into the history) as he played a crucial role during WW2 and the Nazi's treatment of the Jews.

Today is Friday March 22nd, 2013.

Spelling 8P and 8T:



Today we will pick up where we left off before the March Break. We will have a Spelling test on Lesson 20 and complete exercises on Lesson 21. We will conduct a Spelling Bee with a prize for the winner. If you want to complete the L21 exercises early, the questions are posted on the website.


POWER POINT PRESENTATIONS:


In lieu of our debating class, students will be presenting their Power point slides to their class. Before the Break, students completed their Power point and have been given advice and tips on how to improve their slides.

Novel Study:

Today you will present your Novel study book to the class.



 In approximately five minutes, you will discuss: the setting, plot, rising/falling action and conclusion. In addition, you will mention the main characters of the book. Lastly, you will provide a quick book review (your personal thoughts on the novel).
Don't forget to bring the novel to class with you so everyone can see the book you are describing.
