In today's class you will be working in partners to create an Advertising poster. You will pick a product from a list of products and design, create and colour an Advertisement for that product. Also, try to come up with a slogan as well. This assignment is not for homework, but you will have both this period and your Journal period to complete the assignment.

Today's journal class will be used to complete your Media assignments from above. Use your time effectively so you achieve a great mark!

In today's class Ms. Purvis will show you a fun creative site where you can write short stories. This is an extension activity from your essay writing last week. If there is time, you will read your stories in class.

                      

Essay Writing: 8P and 8T:

**Today is the Spell-a-thon Assembly, therefore, your Writing class may be cancelled.

In today's class you will learn about Imaginative writing. We will look at examples in class and then students will try their own examples.

Today is Wednesday June 5,  2013.

Today's class will involve working on a new unit: Clauses. We will begin on page 89 in our workbooks.

Library 8T :

In today's class Ms. Purvis will show you a fun creative site where you can write short stories. This is an extension activity from your essay writing last week. If there is time, you will read your stories in class.

Novel Study 8P and 8T:

Today we will read Chapters 24-27 together in class. In addition, we will complete questions that pertain to those Chapters. Next week, you will have a Quiz on  Chapters 21-26.

Sightlines:

Today we are reading a story titled: "Dreams". It is located on pages 265-271 of the text. We will complete Question 2 at the end of the story.

Today Ms. Purvis is working on developing Cause and Effect essays. She will show you some online writing sites that help you develop your thesis and essay writing skills.

Essay Writing: 8P and 8T

Today students will continue their lessons on Cause and Effect Essays. Today's class will be devoted to writing a full rough draft of a Cause and Effect essay-the full 5 paragraph essay, including the Prewriting, the Introduction,Body Paragraphs and Conclusion. Students will be given the whole period to work on it and will be timed on each part to ensure they are effectively utilizing their time.

                                                         

Today is Wednesday May 29th,  2013.

Today there is a Quiz on Mechanics. We have been working on this unit for weeks, so ensure you are looking over all the necessary capitalization and punctuation marks so you are prepared for today's quiz. Good Luck!

              Some students in Grade Seven and Eight are involved in the softball tournament for the day. therefore, there will be a revised schedule for the day. Students remaining at school will have missed Spelling quizzes and begin working on the review units in their workbooks.

Many students are participating in the Soccer Tournament today, therefore, there will be a revised schedule.

Today students will learn about Cause and Effect Essays. We will look at some handouts and practice the Prewriting Process. If there is time, students will work on a Rough Draft of this essay.

This week we are reviewing the last pages of the Mechanics unit in our Workbooks. There is a Grammar Quiz next week so we will practice some exercises together in class.

                                               Today is Monday May 13th, 2013.

Media:

Media projects are due today. You will be showing your advertisement to your classmates  who will critique you ad and offer advice to improve upon the design. You will be given time at the end of the class to adjust or change any ideas you think might help get you a better mark. Projects are due at the end of class.

Journal:

Topic: Pretend you could have your own personal robot. What would you name it? What would you program your robot to do for you? Would you spend time with your robot? What would you do together?

Essay Writing: 8P and 8T:

Today students will attempt to write a 5 paragraph Persuasive essay in class-including the Prewriting. Students will be timed on each part of the essay to ensure they are managing their time effectively.
