Today we will begin a unit on Advertising, specifically, we will discuss the basic concept of advertising for the public. There will be handouts for students to look at, examples of ads to critique and discuss, and students will complete a few questions for homework.

Journal:

Today's topic refers to a leap year-or the lack thereof, to be more specific.

Topic: "There is no leap year this year; however, if you could insert an extra day into 2013, when would you (as in what month and day?) .
Describe the day, including the people and events you would include.

Essay Writing 8P and 8T:

This week we will build on our writing unit by learning about a proper thesis and an effective conclusions. We will learn the concepts in class, look at some examples, and build on the paragraphs we have written so far. 




Library 8P:

The Library class for today has been cancelled and replaced with a Media class. This is to compensate for the missed classes from Family Day and BB finals. We will be discussing Controversial Ads in Advertising.

Today is Thursday February 28, 2013. 

**Today will be a revised schedule for the day. Both myself and the U14 girls volleyball team will be absent for the day at RHMS competing for the U14 Title.

Therefore, I will put together a lesson plan for the day that includes completing unfinished work and novel study booklets. Students can also work on their Novel Study presentations and their Power point presentations. Some Grammar pages and Reading Comprehension will round out the day.

This is a busy day for the school as its our:

Events start at 6 pm and all parents and students are invited to attend.

Spelling:

Today students will have a Spelling test on Unit 19 and complete exercises on Lesson 20.
Students will also be participating in a voluntary Spelling Bee for a prize.

Power Point:

Today the last slides are due by the end of class. This would be slides 7-10. The last slides are based on the major aspects of your novel.

Today is Monday February 11th.

I hope everyone enjoyed the Snow Day and the long weekend.

** Today the boys have their 2nd playoff qualifier in the afternoon. Therefore, there will be a revised schedule in the afternoon.


Media:

In lieu of Friday's snow day, this period will be dedicated to working on your Power Point presentation. The first three slides are due by the end of class. Students have already designed a rough draft on their presentation last week.

Journal:

The topic today is Chinese New Year. Last week, some students had the chance to write a rough draft on this topic, therefore, students will either write the good copy of their journal, or research their Chinese sign and the characteristics of that sign and write a new journal. Students will find out if 2013 will be a good year or not for them according to Chinese astrology.

**Both myself and the girls have an away game at Field stone today . Therefore, there will be a revised schedule for the afternoon.



Library 8P:

Ms. Purvis has you working in a writing workshop. With her assistance, you will be working on the next part of the workshop. Don't forget to bring your computers to class.

Writing 8P and 8T:

This class will be replaced with a combined grade seven and eight class due to both myself and the girls on the volleyball team leaving for an away game. Therefore, the students remaining will work on writing reproducibles.

On Monday we finished Part 1 of our Power Point unit which was the first three slides of the Power Point Presentation . Today we will be continuing the unit by designing the next three slides. In total, you will need to have all six slides completed by Feb 20th.

**Today is SKATING DAY at Bond Academy. Students will partake in skating activities at Mc Gregor Arena. Therefore, afternoon classes have been cancelled.

Today is Friday February 22nd, 2013.

Spelling:

Due to the Snow Day and the PA Day last week, we are behind in our Spelling unit. We will have a Spelling test on Lesson 17 and completing exercises o n Lesson 19.

Debates:

It has been a few weeks since our last debate, so I am sure students are eager to defend their arguments. The topic today will  argue whether Middle School should be separated from Elementary school. I look forward to hearing your arguments.

**Today the boys have the first round of their basketball playoffs, therefore, there will be a revised schedule due to the absences of the boys and Mr. Poulin, Mr. Carney and Ms. Kang.

Library: 

Library class is cancelled for today as students need to write the Grammar Quiz instead.

Today you are presenting your Print Ads to the class. We will be voting on your ad to see whether or not it was successful in getting the audience to pay attention to your product.


Journal:

Today's topic is in light of Chinese New Year which is on Sunday. It is the year of the Snake. Discuss what Chinese sign you are, it's characteristics, and what the predictions are for your sign in the upcoming year of the Snake.

Library: 

Today you will continue working on your writing from last class. You began writing your paragraphs with Ms. Purvis last class, and she will take you to the next step in the writing process. Don't forget to bring your writing book to class with you.


Essay Writing: 

Today we will be working on revising and editing our rough drafts from last class. You brainstormed and mapped out ideas and today you will write out a first rough draft. Then you will revise and edit the draft using the editing symbols we covered last class.

** Today the girls have a volleyball game at Bond; therefore, the last class of the day will be rescheduled.

 

Novel Study 8P and 8T:

By now you should be 3/4 to the end of your novel. In your Novel study booklet, we will be completing the last two pages titled: "Setting" and "Plot and Conflict". Students will have time to complete both pages in class. If finished early, students can continue reading their novel study books.

Sightlines 8P and 8T:

Today we are reading a story titled: "How the Oppossum Stole Fire". It is a fable that attempts to explain how fire originated. It is a cute story. The story is located on pages 146-151. I hope you like it.
