Today is Monday October 29th, 2012.

 Media: 

Today we will start our new unit on Censorship. Specifically, we will be looking at defining the term and then making class notes as to how Censorship is present in various forms of media. We will be discussing the CRTC-who they are and what they do in Canada.
Recently in the news, the CRTC made a big decision involving BELL Media. Find out what happened so you can join in on the discussion!

Journal: 

The journal topic for this week is on Halloween....
"Are you looking forward to Halloween this year?" "What are your plans Halloween night?" "What is your costume this year?" "Why did you pick it?"
 Students are asked to write 100 words on the topic.

Library 8P:

Today we will be presenting our Wikispaces in the library with Ms. Purvis. A reminder that you will receive a mark out of 10: 5 marks for the Wikispace information, how well you navigate through the site; and 5 marks for your presentation skills.

Creative Writing 8P and 8T:

 Our topic for today is Racism. We are covering last week's topic. As a class, we will discuss the meaning of the words, some examples both in your community and around the world; adn lastly, what can be done to help prevent the problem of racism in the future.

BOO!

Today is Wednesday October 31st-a sccaarrryyy day!

All subjects have been suspended for the day.
Students will arrive in costume to partake in the school's costume parade beginning at 9am. Parents may attend and take pictures if they wish.
For the remainder of the morning, students can enjoy being in costume and visiting the Grade eight's Haunted House!!

In the afternoon, once students have changed back into their school uniforms, they will watch a horror movie.

Today is Thursday November 1st-Welcome to November! 

SEEDFOLK PRESENTATIONS: 

I am sure many of you are tired from the night before, so we will start off our day listening to presentations from classmates. You will have a peer editing checklist to fill out as you listen to your peer's presentations.

Sightlines 8P and 8T:
 
Today we will be learning a story titled: 'The Cool Crowd" .  It is located on pages 68-72 of the text. We will be completing Q2 in class.

Good Morning Grade Eight,
Today is Friday November the 2nd, 2012.

Spelling 8P and 8T:

Today we start off our day with a Spelling test on L7. We will have an oral Spelling bee on Lesson 8 and times to complete exercise questions. Good luck on your spelling test!

Debates 8P and 8T:

Due to the soccer practice at the complex last Friday, we did not get the chance to debate on Rated "M" video games. I know many of you are interested in debating this topic, as you have very strong opinions on the subject. Therefore, instead of having a "Poets  and Playwrights" period, I am giving you the chance to debate instead.

Media:

I am going to delay the start of our new unit on Censorship one week. We will begin this unit next Monday. Today we need a "catch up" period as there are a few students who have assignments outstanding and need additional time to complete their work. Since this is a work period, I will expect you to bring whatever books you need to this class.

Journal:

Today's topic is on developing a new language based on a numerical code or type of sign language. You have to develop the new code AND write a short letter to me in code. Let's see whether or not I can decipher it!

Good Morning Grade Eight.
Today is Thursday October 25th.

Novel Study:8P and 8T

Today we will prepare an outline for your Seedfolk presentations.  
Your presentations are due November 15th.

In class, you will pick a character from the novel that resonated with you. In addition, you will fill out and submit an outline reproducible that shows you have a clear direction of what you will discuss. Also, you will be emailed a presentation rubric to help guide you in preparing for your presentation.

Sightlines: 8P and 8T: 

Today we will read a story titled: "Ambush". It is located on pages 61-63 of your text. It is a story of a father who has to tell his daughter about his military past. It is an interesting and thought-provoking story.

Today is Friday October 19th.

Its a Dress Down Day at Bond Academy.....but not just any day-its a  Dress Down Day for

You are to wear as much PINK as you possibly can!

Spelling
Our first class is Spelling. Therefore, we will have a test on Lesson 4 and complete exercises on Lesson 5. In addition, we will be having an oral Spelling Bee for prizes!!

8P and 8T Debates

Today we will be exploring the topic of Rated `M`games. We will come up with reasons for and against why rated M games are/are not too violent for users under the age of 18.

Today is Thursday October 18th

Novel Study 8P and 8T

 Today we will be listening to songs that pertain to the novel. Specifically, we will be listening to music by: Louis Armstrong, Jewel, and John Mayer.

The songs that we will be listening to, and discussing, all have messages about `Community`and helping one another.  Afterwards, there will be an exercise for you to complete.

Today`s story is titled: `The Hockey Sweater`and is a CLASSIC Canadian story about the rivalry between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiens. If you like hockey, you will love this little tale. It is located on pages 44-50 of your book.

We start off our day with a trip to the library to learn "Powtoon". This is a fun, interactive site that allows you to create indtructional videos-like the video we saw with I-Cloud or Google Drive. Ms. Purvis will be introducing you to this new tool and you will have an opportunity to create a video of your own. I hope you like it! Check out the website if you want to take a look.
