Media:

Today's class will look at Canadian content in Global Media versus the U.S.  Specifically, we will explore Canada's influence in music, film and TV versus the U.S.'s influence on the same genres. Why does it seem as though American music and film is superior to Canada's? 

Journal:

If you could own and operate any business, what would you pick? Describe the set-up, day-to-day operations, revenue and costs of running your own business. Don't forget a catchy name, email address and media site.

Library 8P :

Using current events articles both online and in print, Ms. Purvis will work on persuasive writing with you. You will be practicing how to formulate arguments based on events that are happening in and around your community.

Essay Writing: 8P and 8T:

Now that you have had experience practicing 5 paragraph essays, you can move unto different types of essays. We will begin this unit with  Persuasive Essays. You will be shown the technique, pros and cons, and together as a class we will write an example.

Library 8T :

Essay Writing: 8P and 8T:

Today's class will focus on writing a rough draft of a standard essay. This is an extension on last week. This week, you will be asked to add the Prewriting part. As before, you will need to complete a 5 paragraph essay in class while being timed on each part.

Novel Study 8P and 8T:

Today we are continuing to read the novel. We will start on Chapter 7 and read to Chapter 10. You will have an exercise to complete in class/homework.

Sightlines:

Today we are learning about Nelson Mandela and a little of what he is known worldwide for- his work in human rights. We will read a short story about him in our textbook. We did not have time for this story last week due to the Swim Meet, but I think it is important enough to read as a class.

Essay Writing: 8P and 8T:

Today's class will focus on writing rough drafts of Essays. Students will be given a topic and will need to write a rough draft of a five paragraph essay-including the Prewriting, the development of a Thesis, the Introduction, Body paragraphs and a Conclusion- all within class time.

Today's class will be to continue working on our Mechanics unit. We will work on pages 208-213 in our workbooks. Specifically, we are studying rules of the comma and the semicolon.
